MIMAP Closing Conference: „Irregularly staying Migrants: Empirical Findings and Methodological Advances“

20./21. Mai 2025, Nürnberg

Schwerpunktthemen: Abschiebung, Flucht

Managing irregularity is a central issue in the political debate on effective migration management. Robust data and research findings are important for informing public debate and guiding the development of effective policies. Thereby, the complexities and challenges associated with irregular migration require a multifaceted research and policy-making approach.

Against this background, the BAMF Research Centre will host the MIMAP (Feasibility study on the im-/mobility of people obliged to leave the country in Germany) Closing Conference, which will focus on empirical findings and methodological advances in the study of different aspects of the situation of irregularly staying migrants. The conference brings together researchers from various disciplines and methodological backgrounds (qualitative, quantitative, ethnographic, mixed methods) who are empirically engaged with irregularly staying migrants or apply innovative methodological approaches to study explicitly hard-to-reach migrant groups.

Visitors can look forward to various presentations, including on topics such as:

  • access to vocational training for tolerated refugees
  • the situation of young people with a temporary ban on deportation
  • (Duldung) or a temporary residence permit (Aufenthaltsgestattung)
  • deportation and health problems: perspectives from practice and human rights obligations
  • children of irregularly resident European migrants
